Avanzi - idee, ricerche e progetti per la sostenibilità is a leading think tank that encourages sustainable change.
During its first 10 years, Avanzi has been able to strengthen its independence and competence to better support sustainability targeted innovation at the European Commission, at local and national governments, at company and the non-profit sector levels.
Avanzi's team, characterised by cross-sector knowledge, is made of researchers with skills in green innovations management, CSR and Corporate governance, physical and environmental planning, ethical and development finance, Kyoto related mechanisms, participatory processes and environmental disputes resolution.
The co-operation with universities, research centres and other institutions in Italy and abroad enables Avanzi to build up high profile networks of professionals. These relationships allow a continuous updating and favour the adoption of the most effective and future-oriented approaches towards sustainable development.

Avanzi operates at four different levels - intellectual stimulus, analysis, experimentation and training - in three different domains:

• Design, evaluation and implementation of public policies, plans and programmes. Avanzi assists public bodies and companies during the design of policies, plan and programmes and, at the same time, provides knowledge and methods for the assessment of their impacts on sustainable development. Thanks to the development of proprietary methodologies and the involvement of stakeholders, Avanzi identifies the most significant options, the indicators that better describe state, pressure and scenarios, compliance and administrative costs and the key measures for the implementation and monitoring of environmental, development, welfare and planning policies.

• CSR, management of environmental innovation and accountability. Avanzi assists enterprises and other organisation in acknowledging their responsibilities towards stakeholders and in managing the change. The approach is modular and customised and aims to integrate social, environmental and ethical concerns into all business activities and levels, from strategy to operational management. Particular care is dedicated to identification of risks and opportunities, anticipation of conflicts, benchmark, disclosure, investor relation.

• Stakeholders management and environmental disputes resolution and prevention. Participation and stakeholder involvement in decision making processes is a distinctive element of Avanzi's approach and, at the same time, is a clear domain of activity. As part of local and environmental disputes resolution, as part of urban renovation, as part of Agenda 21 processes, as part of crisis management, Avanzi operates as facilitator, mediators and analyst, providing inputs for the identification of consensus based solutions. Continuous update on the state of the art, training and a well established ability to analyse complex situations are part of Avanzi's expertise.
